The Story of Stinky
Stinky Yogi was founded in 2012 by Yoga Teacher Stacey Orr, a west coast native now based in Ithaca, NY. She is currently on an epic road trip in her Stinky Subaru with her pug Gibson, teaching and vending with Wanderlust Festival at cities nationwide through the end of 2017. Stinky’s mission is simple and genuine: to help people feel elevated through the magic of essential oils. We are a small, woman/yogi owned and operated company. Our products are made by hand in small batches by our team of yogis in PA and NY. We love our tribe and believe deeply in the power of community, connection, and being part of the mindful movement.
The story of Stinky goes like this: in 2010, Stacey left the west coast after completing her YTT at an ashram and headed east for Pennsylvania after a period of serious self-inquiry during her yoga teacher training and losing a close family member to cancer. Although she had spent her twenties in rewarding careers, something was missing—a sense of purpose and passion. In Pennsylvania, she began teaching yoga and began exploring the world of conscious entrepreneurship outside of the odd jobs required to pay the bills. After becoming instantly obsessed with essential oils, she began to make homemade sprays, essential oil blends and natural perfumes at her kitchen table—and Stinky Yogi was born. By a stroke of luck, Stinky Yogi was featured on the Yoganonymous blog and included in the wellness subscription box BuddhiBox. She was also fortunate to meet and collaborate with brand ambassadors Mary Beth LaRue and Jacki Carr to design an aromatherapy line for their company Rock Your Bliss. Slowly, the organic traction and hard work prompted Stacey to finally take the leap to quit her job and go for it. The Stinky Yogi headquarters and production studio opened in 2015 next door to her home base yoga studio and a year later, she began touring full-time as a vendor/teacher at yoga studios and festivals nationwide. We are beyond grateful for this journey, and are deeply moved by everyone who has cheered this underdog called Stinky Yogi on over the years. #namastinky
